8 Days Cycling Tour - Amazing Northern Thailand

Itinerary

Day 1 :  Teak forest, sticky waterfall and Amazing Buddhist Temple (55km) (B,L)
After breakfast you will be transferred by D4D minibus to the starting point. It takes about 30 minutes. After a short safety briefing. We will start cycling to Mae Kuang Dam. Where we will take a boat across a reservoir to the other side. It takes about 20 minutes. And then, we will ride on quiet roads through scenic teak forest and then take some dirt roads to Sticky Waterfall. The “Sticky Waterfall” (Bua Thong Waterfalls) is a unique natural wonder in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Fed by a mineral-rich spring, calcium deposits coat the rocks and tree roots, creating a high-traction, grippy surface. This allows visitors to safely climb the cascading tiers barefoot without slipping. We will have lunch at a restaurant near the waterfall. After lunch we will cycle along paved roads, observing the changing scenery from lush nature to open plantations. The route passes various fruit orchards interspersed with wide rice paddies. The cycling part will be finished at Wat Ban Den. Wat Ban Den is one of the largest and most visually spectacular Buddhist temple complexes in Chiang Mai Province. Finally, we will take D4D minibus to our hotel in Chiang Dao area. It takes about 30 minutes.

Day 1 :  Arrival Day – Chiang Mai

– At around 4 pm our guide team will assist with personalized bike fitting

Day 3 :  Chiang Dao Valley (58 km) (B,L)

Today, we will start cycling from our hotel to visit Chiang Dao cave. Chiang Dao Cave is a massive limestone cavern complex and sacred Buddhist temple located at the base of Doi Luang Chiang Dao Mountain.  The road mixes with paved and unpaved roads. We ride through rice fields and among soaring limestone cliffs on rolling hills. We stop for lunch at a local restaurant before a memorable afternoon riding some quite outstanding mountain trails.  We will have a final climb to the village, then a transfer to our hotel Chai Prakan District.

Day 4 :  Fang Valley (66 km) (B,L)

In contrast to the previous day, much of the ride is flat, and we will make the distance quite quickly. The ride is scenic as we pass farmlands and orchards. We will have nice lunch at Thaton village. After lunch we will have a short ride to our hotel on the banks of the Mae Kok River.

Day 5 :  Thaton – Chiang Rai (70 km) (B,L)

After breakfast, we will cycle along the road connecting Thaton to Mae Chan for 14 km. And then cycle along Mae Kok River to Chiang Rai. We will cycle passing through picturesque cornfields, lush rice paddies, and scenic agricultural landscapes. we’ll venture through the hill tribe villages of Akha, Lahu, and Karen.  We will cycle across a hanging bridge to the other side of the river to have lunch at Pha Soet hot spring. After lunch we will cycle to our hotel in Chiang Rai city.

Day 6 :  The White temple- Tea plantation – Art and Cultural Park (50 km) (B,L)

After breakfast you will be transferred by D4D minibus to the starting point. It takes about 15 minutes.  we begin our cycling through villages and rice fields, follow the Lao River upstream. The bicycle ride is pleasant with a lot of greenery due to the proximity of the river. We will cycle past various fruit orchards, rice fields, rubber plantations. We will stop to visit the White temple (Wat Rong Khun) and then have lunch at restaurant near the temple. In the afternoon we will cycle to Singha Park to see the beauty of tea plantation. And then cycling to the Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park. It is the region’s largest center and displays a huge collection of art items of Lanna culture or Tai culture. After that, we will cycle back to our hotel.

Day 7 : Untouched Golden Triangle cycling day (60 km) (B,L)

After breakfast you will be transferred by D4D minibus to the starting point. It takes about 50 minutes. From the starting point, we will start cycling through villages, farmland and wetland conservation areas. On the way you will experience real local lifestyle and countryside. We also have a chance to visit buffalo village where local people raise buffaloes for living. We will stop to have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will continue cycling through some small gently rolling hills and pass many rice fiends, cassava, and pineapple plantations to Golden Triangle.  Golden Triangle is the place where the three countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar come together. We will visit House of Opium (Opium Museum) and learn about the history of opium trade that led to the area being called the Golden Triangle.  We will take a boat around the Mekong River to see beautiful view around Golden Triangle area.  After that, we will cycle to Chiang Saen, the ancient city on the back road. And then we will cycle along the ancient city moat and wall. Finally, we will cycle to our hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 8 : Chiang Saen – Chiang Khong (53 – 55km) (B,L)

After breakfast you will be transferred by D4D minibus to the starting point. It takes about 10 (Please change it to be 20 minutes). Then, we will cycle along the Mekong River and experience how farmers grow corn, cabbage, garlic and so on.  The countryside will consist of rolling hills, some steep hills. The last 13 kilometers are more challenging with some steep but short ascents. The longest hill is 1.2 km long, about 14% up. The road joins the main road just before the entry to Chiang Khong. We will stay at a hotel that is located on the Mekong Riverbank.  Hotel :  Chiang Khong Teak Garden Hotel  

Day 9 : Chiang Khong – Chiang Rai (63-70 km) (B,L)
After breakfast you will be transferred by D4D minibus to the starting point. It takes about 30 minutes. We will cycle past various fruit orchards and rice fields. We will cycle up longest hill of the day. It is about 1 km long, about 10 % up. After that you will enjoy cycling past many fruit orchards. We will stop to have lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch we will explore more countryside. The cycling tour will be finished outside Chaing Rai city. Finally, we will transfer you to your hotel in Chiang Rai city by D4D minibus.
