Itinerary

Day 1 Chiang Rai -Chiang Saen and Golden Triangle(50 – 70 km)(L)
     After a short safety briefing and personalized bicycle fitting, we will start cycling by weaving our way through small side streets of Chiang Rai. The bicycle ride is pleasant with much greenery due to the proximity of Maekok  river. While you are cycling through this beautiful countryside you will discover the real rural Thailand and see the local lifestyle on the outskirts of Chiang Rai.  Along the way we will visit the Chinese Buddhist Temple, where you can see many young Chinese monks in their unique dress and the largest “Happy Buddha” in Thailand. After visit the temple we will cycle past various fruit orchards, rice fields and rubber plantations. We will have lunch at a local restaurant on the way to Chiang Saen the ancient city.  The overnight stop is at a resort with a swimming pool that is located inside the ancient city.
     In the afternoon we will go by car to the Golden Triangle area and spend time visiting the many sights. It is the location where the three countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar come together along the Mekong River. We will visit House of Opium (Opium museum) and learn about the history of opium trade that led to the area being called the Golden Triangle. We will take boat around the Mekong River to see beautiful view around Golden Triangle area. We can stop for dinner on the way back to the hotel. ** If there is not enough time we will do this activityin the next day**

Day 2 Chiang Saen – Mae Sai (Border town to Myanmar) (43-53 km)(B,L)
     After breakfast we will cycle along Chiang Saen city walls and moat to visit the ruins of Wat Phra That Chedi Lunag. It is one of the most beautiful ruins in this ancient city. After that we will continue cycle along the countryside where you can see a beautiful mountain rage that separates Thailand and Myanmar up to the town of Mae Sai; the Northern most point in Thailand. We will have a nice lunch in Mae Sai, and spend time looking at all of the goods imported from Burma and China (including jade and other gemstones). Those interested in purchasing goods will enjoy the opportunity to bargain with the local merchants. Anyone interested can cross the border into Myanmar for a small fee to extend their Thai visa. After spending time in Mae Sai we will drive back to your hotel in Chiang Rai.
