Experience Northern Thai culture – Golden Triangle – Maesai (Border town to Myanmar)

Itinerary

Day 1 White temple -Art and Cultural Park(43 – 52 km) (L)
A covered pick-up truck will transfer you to Chiang Rai Bicycle Tour office.  After a short safety briefing and personalized bicycle fitting, we begin our cycling through villages and rice fields, follow the Lao River upstream. The bicycle ride is pleasant with a lot of greenery due to the proximity of the river. While you are cycling you will discover the real rural Thailand and see the local lifestyle on the outskirts of Chiang Rai. We will cycle past various fruit orchards, rice fields, rubber plantations, and see many teak trees. We will stop and visit the amazing white temple (Wat Rong Khun) and then have lunch in a local restaurant near the temple. In the afternoon we will cycle to cycling to the Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park. It is the region’s largest center and displays a huge collection of art items of Lanna culture or Tai culture. After that, we will cycle to our hotel.

Day 2  Mountain scenic view – Waterfall (47-55 km)(B,L)
     After breakfast we will cycle upstream along Kok river. You will enjoy seeing the view along the river. After that, we will cycle on a dirt track going over hills about 6 km. This part is one of the highlights of the trip. It includes the highest hill of the trip, 800 m. long, 10% up. After that we will stop and visit Huay Mae Sai waterfall. where you can enjoy swimming in a natural pool.  Then, we will cycle to have lunch at a local restaurant. Ater lunch will cycle to the hotel. We will stop to soak our feet in the hot spa at Pong Phra Bat Hot spring  before arrive the hotel. The second night is at a beautiful resort with a nice swimming pool.

Day 3 Chiang Saen the ancient city (50-70 km)(B,L)
     After breakfast we will start cycling pass Chiang Rai Ratjabhat University and then cycling through many rice fields. The bicycle ride is pleasant with much greenery due to the proximity of Maekok river. While you are cycling through this beautiful countryside you will discover the real rural Thailand and see the local lifestyle on the outskirts of Chiang Rai.  Along the way we will visit the Chinese Buddhist Temple, where you can see many young Chinese monks in their unique dress and the largest “Happy Buddha” in Thailand. After visiting the temple we will cycle past various fruit orchards, rice fields and rubber plantations. We will have lunch at a local restaurant on the way to Chiang Saen the ancient city.  The third night is at a hotel with a swimming pool on the Mae Khong riverbank.

 Day 4 Golden Triangle– Mae Sai (Border town to Myanmar) (43 – 53 km) (B,L)

     After breakfast, we will start cycling to Chiang Saen the ancient city. Where you will see many ancient sites around the city including Wat Phra That Chedi Luang, city wall and city moat. After that we will leave the ancient city by back road to Golden Triangle area where the three countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar come together. On the way you will experience real local lifestyle and countryside that are rarely seen by tourists. We will visit House of Opium (Opium Museum) and learn about the history of opium trade that led to the area being called the Golden Triangle. And then take a boat along the Mekong River to see beautiful view around Golden Triangle area.  After that we will continue cycling through some small gently rolling hills of the countryside and pass many of rice fiends, cassava and pineapple plantations. We will have a nice lunch at local restaurant on the way. After that we will continue cycle along the countryside where you can see a beautiful mountain rage that separates Thailand and Myanmar. Cycling tour will be finished at Maesai; the Northern most point in Thailand.  After that we will spend time looking at all the goods imported from Myanmar and China (including jade and other gemstones). Those interested in purchasing goods will enjoy the opportunity to bargain with the local merchants.  Finally, we will drive back to your hotel in Chiang Rai.
